It seems that the news is filled with stories of credit card and other personal information security breaches, so we thought it might be helpful to share a few tips for managing your financial identity.
- Monitor your primary credit card and bank accounts often for fraudulent activity. Managing account activity online is the easiest and quickest way, however you could monitor your activity using mailed statements or automated telephone services. Of course, simply calling or visiting your branch is effective as well.
- If you monitor your accounts online, reset your password quarterly, which will make it harder for others to access your account information online.
- If you prefer paper record keeping, store your records in a safe place and destroy documents dated beyond the appropriate date. For bank statements, we recommend shredding all statements older than 1 year.
Speaking of SHREDDING, Franklin Federal will be hosting a free community shredding event at our Mechanicsville branch located at 7279 Bell Creek Road on Friday, June 6th from 9am to 5pm. There will be a mobile shredding truck onsite and you will be able to watch your documents get shredded. For more details on the event, or tips on what might be good information to shed, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call our Mechanicsville branch at 804.746.1335.
